Paint the Town May 1 – 2 in New Albany brings artists from across the state

Approximately 40 artists from across the state are coming to New Albany to “Paint the Town” on May 1 -2. The Mississippi Plein Air Painters will be positioned throughout New Albany.  You can see artists throughout New Albany as they find scenes that they will paint. This will be followed by juried art exhibits, an oil painting workshop,  quick draw competitions as well as a Wet Paint Sale for the public.

NEMiss.News Paint the TownYou might find a local scene that you would like to hang in your home or business. The event has local sponsors, and events will take place at the Union County Heritage Museum at 114 Cleveland Street in New  Albany.

The schedule is as follows:

Friday, May 1

May 1 – 8 a.m. Pick up Registration Packet and goodie bags at the Union County Heritage Museum and paint all day until the 4 p.m. reception at the museum.

8:30 – Noon – Artist Carol Roark will teach an Oil Painting Workshop at the Museum with the demo beginning at 9 a.m.  Plein Air with Hands-On Instruction after demo. Cost is $100

4 p.m. Meet and Greet reception at the Museum with Door Prizes

5 p.m. -Evening Paint Out for 1 hour on the Museum Campus.  $200 prize for the winner sponsored by State Farm Ins.  The Prize will be presented at Saturday Noon.

On Saturday, May 2

NEMiss.News Quick draw competition8 a.m. -Start painting at your leisure and turn in Friday and Saturday work for judging by 11 a.m. at the museum.  Dot Courson is the event judge.

9 a.m. Quick Draw competition at the Museum 9 – 10 . Must be registered to compete. Cost is $10. Canvas must be stamped prior to start.

There will be a Tiny Art Gallery with 3” x 3” panels  at the closing reception . Paint your tiny art panel,  and it will be placed for sale.

12 noon Closing reception at the museum with awards, door prizes and the Wet Paint Sale that is open to the public.  The exhibit closes at 2 p.m.

At 1:30 on May 2, there will be a 250 Butterfly Release in the Faulkner Garden at the museum, an event for America 250.  Student Ellis Hardin will recite the poem “The Ride of Paul Revere.”  The public is invited to both the Wet Paint Sale from Paint the Town and reception and the butterfly release, which is sponsored by the New Albany Garden Club.
