SHANNON – Opal Grace Chambers Young, known to all as “Pat,” passed away Monday, December 4, 2023, surrounded by her family at North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 76 years old. She was born in Pontotoc Co. on January 7, 1947, one of 13 children to the union of the late Charlie and Johnnie Chambers. She married Buddy Young on November 5, 1966. Together, they raised a daughter and three sons. She attended Brewer United Methodist Church. She managed House of Tux in Tupelo for many years. Pat was a renowned seamstress who could perform miracles with her sewing machine. She was also known for her culinary skills and crafts. Family and friends waited patiently around Christmas time each year for her boxes of homemade candies and especially for her famous tea cakes. Pat will be remembered for her zest for life, her quick wit, and her contagious laughter. She loved her family deeply, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought Granny so much joy and happiness.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Buddy Young of Brewer; her sons, Robert (Lisa), Milton (Kay), and Bill (Laurie) Young; her grandchildren, Kristin (Jeremy) Mullins, Renae (Brandon) Morris, Katelyn (Nate) Schneider, Ashley (Tanner) Headstream, Brandon (Joyce) Young, Devin (Melonie) Young, and Nikki Young; her great-grandchildren, Daniel, Jacob, Bennett, Alex, Thomas, Wesley, Cooper, Landon, little Cooper, Rush, and Spencer; and her two brothers, James “Benny” Chambers (Dean) and Bobby Chambers (Pat); countless nieces and nephews and cousins and their families and all the Young family whom she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Pollyanna; six brothers, Top, Nobe, Cecil, Henry, Doc, and Jack; and four sisters, Lela, Mary, Sally, and Joyce and her in-laws, Merle Monts and Milton Young and Ruby Young.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at the Brewer United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM to service time at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holland Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
