Union County Relay for Life fights cancer, honors survivors

Relay for Life is a world-wide fundraising program that is sponsored by the American Cancer Society. It was started in 1985. New Albany is one of about 5,000 communities in the U.S. that hold Relay for Life events, and about 20 other countries also participate.

Last night, June 21, months of community fundraising culminated in the annual Union County Relay for Life at the Union County Fairgrounds in New Albany. As always, the survivors walk was an emotional high point of a night designed to honor cancer survivors and their caregivers, as well as to raise funds to fight cancer. The luminaria ceremony honoring those touched by cancer is another highlight of Relay for Life events everywhere.

This year’s goal is $62,000. To check the progress toward that goal, visit the Relay for Life Union County website at http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLCY19SOR?pg=entry&fr_id=91686
